After accepting the salvation of Jesus Christ, the precious blood shed on the cross has the power to cleanse our souls, remove sins, and cover us, protecting us from the attacks and harm of the evil one.
As I was learning to pray for the cleansing and covering of the precious blood, a naive thought came to my mind: Since everyone is praying for the covering of the precious blood, how much blood did Jesus actually shed? Even if He is God and has enough blood to use, since the blood is “precious,” shouldn’t it be “used sparingly”?
I had a moment of clarity when meditating on the miracle of the five loaves and two fish. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish offered by a little boy, lifted them up, blessed them, broke the bread, gave it to the disciples, and the disciples distributed it to the crowd, feeding five thousand people, and turned out leaving twelve baskets of leftovers.
Not only did the five loaves and two fish “multiply,” but in this miracle, they turned into “infinity.” When my daughter was 4 years old, she asked if infinity is the largest number. Papa told her, “No, because the largest number can always be added by 1, and that’s infinity.” Jesus, in giving thanks and breaking the bread, didn’t just make more; if it were a mere multiplication, there should be less as it is divided more, but instead, there was more abundance in the process of sharing and distributing. This tells us that there is no need to use the body and blood of Jesus “sparingly” (of course, not to misuse it). The sharing of infinity means that there will always be more.
Every day, we don’t live by ourselves but share in the body and blood of the Lord Jesus, sharing His life, and allowing the Lord to pass on life through us, just as He gave the bread and fish to the disciples for them to distribute to the people. In essence, the miracle of feeding five thousand people continues to happen.
Thank the Lord for giving us this miracle, recorded in the Bible, revealing such an important mystery.
